Offshore Power Group AB awarded significant service contract

Offshore Power Group AB (OPG) has been awarded a significant service contract to provide offshore client representative services for the NordBalt HVDC project. The service contract was awarded by SWECO Energuide AB.

OPG’s scope of services includes offshore client representatives for HVDC cable load out, cable laying, offshore jointing, post lay trenching and rock placement. OPG will also support with marine and cable specialist advises to the project.
The offshore works will commence in April 2014 and continue to September 2015 with interruption for the winter season in between.

About NordBalt HVDC project:

NordBalt is a project for the construction of an electricity interconnection between Klaipėda in Lithuania and Nybro in Sweden, implemented by transmission system operators Svenska kraftnät and Litgrid (Lithuania).

The aim of the project is to promote trade in electricity between the Baltic and Nordic electricity markets and increase the security of electricity supply in the region.

The 700 MW link is estimated to be completed at the end of 2015. The total cable length is approximately 453 km, whereof approximately 400 km is offshore cables.

The entire project is valued at EUR 552 million.
